Basic Description: The American Staffordshire Terrier is a Bulldog-Terrier cross who was known during the earlier stages of his career as the
"Half and Half," the "Bull and Terrier," and the "Pit Dog." He has been known and admired in England and America for many years. In fact,
specimens under the name of "Pit Dogs" were brought here as far back as 1870. Bred in the United States for a long time as "Yankee Terriers",
these dogs were admitted to registry over here as Staffordshire Terriers in 1935. Though publicized primarily as savage fighters they are
actually docile and obedient companions. The American Staffordshire Terrier is an intelligent and excellent guardian. Over the past 50 years,
careful breeding has produced today's American Staffordshire Terrier who is affectionate, reliable, and an especially good dog for children. The
American Staffordshire Terrier is a happy, outgoing, stable, and confident dog that makes a wonderful family pet.
