Basic Description: The Australian Cattle Dog is sometimes known as the Blue Heeler, Queensland Heeler, Queensland Blue Heeler, and was originally known as the Australian Heeler. The breed is one of the serious workers upon which at least a part of the Australian economy depends. Its ancestry goes back to the Collie, Kelpie and Dingo. No matter who or what the foe, a Cattle Dog always attacks the heels. This habit has been bred into him for generations, for as a herding dog, he silently forces strays back to the herd by nipping at their heels. Ever alert, extremely intelligent, watchful, courageous and trustworthy with an implicit devotion to duty makes him an ideal dog as a guardian to his master, his herd or his property. They are sturdy, alert, and watchful.
