Basic Description: The Australian Terrier is a comparatively recent (1960) addition to the A.K.C family of recognized breeds. The dog is one of the smallest working terriers originating in the Australian bush lands by crossing several types of terriers to obtain desired characteristics. Its low set body with pricked ears and docked tail is covered by a hard, straight coat of blue-black or silver-black with rich tan markings giving an appearance of individuality in addition to being an aggressive, high spirited hunter. He has been used as a guardian of mines and tending flocks. In the home the Australian Terrier is a friendly, affectionate companion accepting the responsibility given to him.
