Miniature Schnauzer
Mountain West Dog Fanciers
A Guide to all things "DOG" in the Western Mountain States

Basic Description: The Miniature Schnauzer is a robust, active dog of terrier type, resembling his larger cousin, the Standard Schnauzer,
in general appearance, and of an alert, active disposition. The Miniature Schnauzer is a smaller edition of the Standard Schnauzer, native to
Germany where it was used in the stables as a ratter and a companion to the horses. In order to obtain this smaller sized dog, the Standard
Schnauzer was crossed with the Affenpinscher, a black breed classified as a Toy. Though rating as a different breed abroad since 1899,
the Miniature Schnauzer has been produced here in the United States only since 1924. Note the square and sturdy build of this dog; he has
lost nothing in bone and ruggedness by reduction in size. His coat is hard and wiry throughout, even his bushy eyebrows, and whiskers are
wiry.
He is friendly, intelligent and willing to please. He should never be overaggressive or timid. The Miniature Schnauzer was originally bred to
be a small farm dog, able to go to ground for all kinds of vermin.
