Basic Description: “Tolling” is a Middle English word meaning to “lure game.” To the hunter, this means to draw waterfowl within range.
Decoy dogs were used in Europe to lure ducks into nets, and as hunting companions since the 17th century. Yarmouth County, Nova
Scotia, Canada, is considered the place of origin of the purebred Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. The Toller’s attitude suggests
strength with a high degree of agility. He is alert and quick, with a keen desire to work and to please. Approved in the AKC, 2003.
