Basic Description: The Russian Toy can have a smooth or long coat. Outside of Russia, the motherland of this breed, they are often confused with the Miniature Pinschers and the Chihuahua dogs. From these breeds the Russian Toy differs with an elegance of body shape, lighter bone structure, and flying movements. The little Toy reminds one of a miniature Doberman, and his long, thin legs and high-set long neck are reminiscent of a small fawn. The Russian Toy is a very small dog, but it has a "big", dedicated and brave heart, an extraordinary mind, a cheerful personality, and a charming appearance. There are people who love dogs but can’t have them because of practical issues like lack of space in a small apartment, the problem of where to leave the dog while on vacation, time consuming grooming requirements, and often the cost of dog food for a larger breed. For the lucky owners of Russian Toys, these problems do not exist. Dogs of this breed weigh on average 3-5 pounds. With the square format and the height of 8 - 10 inches they fit comfortably in even the smallest apartment (though in big houses, they also feel fine). You can potty train them to go outside or to do their business on a training pad in the bathroom. Despite the tiny size, Toys are very strong. They are capable of very long walks and even if the “baby” is tired, you can carry her home in your hands without getting tired yourself. The Russian Toy is the perfect city-apartment dog. She is easy to care for, with a minimal cost of ownership after the initial investment. The Toy is a loving, intelligent, and reliable companion for its owners. It is considered a celebrity breed in Russia. Russian Toys have found enormous popularity among politicians, actors, singers and other celebrities in Russia. Modern celebrities consider it very prestigious to have such a family member. The Russian Toy remains a status symbol in Russian society, much as it was a century ago, when their essence was to decorate the drawing rooms and salons of rich ladies, stressing the luxury of their lives. They were rarely allowed to leave the hands of their owners. Such dogs were purchased as pets and favorites of the masters. Often, their owners have been ladies, usually more loving towards their pets than the stronger, less fair, half of mankind. Due to these factors, Russian Toys absorbed the love like a sponge, and developed into a breed infinitely in love with their owners, dogs that are endlessly devoted and equally boundless in their ability to return love. Despite this, Toys are quite capable of performing some purely utilitarian functions, such as that of watchdog. They have excellent hearing and sense of scent, handed down from their ancestors – the terriers of England. Of course, a Toy cannot, like a Rottweiler, catch the uninvited guest and grab him behind at the soft tissue holding the offender until police arrive. But he will be the first to give the signal that there is a stranger at the door of your apartment or cottage gate area. With his loud bark, he will inform the whole district about it. The breed is easy to raise and not difficult to train. In fact the Russian Toy enjoys training and one cannot wish for a better pupil. Despite his small size, this dog will do well at obedience or agility. The Russian Toy is very active and lively and he can run and play the whole day. This very little house pet is hardy for his size, fearless, neither shy nor aggressive and doesn't need a lot of food to thrive. They enjoy participating in everything the owner does. It is difficult to find another dog having such an effect! People who once decide to own one fall in love instantly! And the only problem this dog creates immediately upon arrival – he makes the new owner want another. Russian Toys combine absolutely incongruous features such as tiny size and huge self-respect; a boldness which approaches impudence and improbable fidelity; tenderness and intelligence. They are cheerful, graceful, elegant and proud, have a good sense of humor and are improbably beautiful! Russian Toys are suitable for indoor living only. Above Provided by Angelica Cain
